Malmö's story begins sometime around 1275 but was then called the city Malmhauger. It was the fine fishing that made people move here and for many centuries exported salted herring in barrels from here. In 1658 the city became Swedish. Before that it was governed by both Denmark and the German Hanseatic League. Today, Malmö Sweden's third largest city and the Öresund region is very important center for the Swedish contacts with the continent and therefore the world. The city has very interesting architecture with a lot of well-preserved historic buildings, including Malmö's oldest half-timbered houses, the Thottska house from 1558th. Malmo is a large city in Sweden and the visitors to the city will find parks, museums, restaurants, beaches and more.
