History of the town and the hotel:

Härnön that the city is situated on has a very long history. Already during the Viking period the island was inhabited, and was to become the place which then would become Härnösand. In the Wasa dynasty's early years there was a struggle for the trade center would be in the country. Wasa considered that the trade center in Härnösand threatened trade in Stockholm and attempted to solve this by setting up a market town but with a strong local opposition, it will take until to 1585 before the city was founded. 1646 Härnösand becomes the county seat for the first time. During the years the city have a popular source of health, it becomes law city, in that the Bishop is located and a center for the sawmill industry. The house where the hotel is now located was built in 1969. Before that, the older parts, the Annex or Diplon as it is called in everyday speech, have been great halls of the local high society. Today it is characterized mainly by the rooms that have very high ceilings. The city was also for many years the central point of entertainment in the area and Bengt Lindström is the area's most famous painter and he used to eat and drink in the restaurant and as payment, he left the paintings. Today you can see one in the lobby.

Härnösand is the diocese and provincial capital of Västernorrland. Many larger authorities also have their offices here. The city airport is shared with Sundsvall, and as of December 2011 the renovated Ådalsbanan was inaugurated, providing convenient transportation to the area. In addition to the gateway to the High Coast and its trails, Härnösand is a large maritime center with substantial boat traffic in the summer. A large marina in front of the hotel can accomodate both sail and power boats. Proximity to shops and restaurants make this a busy port during the summer. The most popular facilities is the County Museum and Technichus which amuses all ages.
